Volt Club Photography Training

The ‘Through Our Eyes’ photography training event was on the 9th of October 2015, from 9:00am to 12:00pm, organized by CIS VOLT CLUB and hosted in CIS.

Purpose of this event is to train 2 students (from 10 State school) to use the disposable camera and give them a chance to tell stories, letting us see ‘what makes them’ through their eyes. We had ten state schools come to the training, the first school was Victoria Island Junior Secondary.  They had two boys who were very good at drawing; they drew 2 art pieces for us. After a while other schools came and the mentors began their speech on photography. The mentors were: Mr Plumptre,  and Mr Segun Ajayi. Two things I remember that they said is capture a momentand tell a story; take pictures of something you like, something that makes you happy. Even though I was concentrating on taking pictures, those two statements stood out; it was useful information for an amateur photographer like me.

Once that was done we had refreshments as well as chatted with the student trying to know each other’s talents and hobbies. There were two girl who could sing very well, one sang ‘All of me’ and the other sang ‘Amazing Grace’.

On the other hand, the artist from Victoria Island junior Secondary school could rap and dance, he danced and rap to a Nigerian song called shakiti bobo.

Next we had Mr Plumptre talk to us about the disposable camera explaining how to use it and stating what the students were to do with it, the timelines for the submission of cameras and selection of pictures. When that was done, we took picture with the schools. Wow, we had done it… the first event was stressful and awesome.
