Host CIS Wins at the Prodigy Football League 2017

Host CIS Wins at the Prodigy Football League 2017.

We are excited to announce that the second edition of the Prodigy League Football Competition
was hosted at CIS with eight International schools shortlisted to attend. The schools were CIS,
British International School (BIS) Victoria Island (defending champion), Indian school Ilupeju,
French School Victoria Island, Whitesands Lekki, Temple School Ikeja, Edgewood College Lekki
and Almond School Ibeju Lekki.
The opening games saw CIS playing Almond School while BIS played Temple school Ikeja. The
games were tough with all schools throwing in their strengths. CIS defeated Almond by a lone
goal while BIS beat Temple School hollow with a 2 – nil victory. The other group games came in
quick successions with every school playing with the aim of qualifying for the semi-finals.
The semi-final games saw BIS (first in their group) playing against CIS (second in group A)
while French School was paired against the Indian School. The intensity of the games were high
with all eyes fixed on the prizes. BIS drew the first blood scoring two quick goals against CIS.
The host team knowing the implication of this, took the game back to the defending champion
and forced a quick equalizer by scoring two wonderful goals. The penalty shoot-out saw CIS
securing a victory by winning 3-2 for a place in the finals. The Indian school lost to French
school 0-1 to give them the other ticket to the finals.
There was everything to be played for in the final game between CIS and French School. At the
first meeting during the group stage, French School won the encounter which made them top
the group. At the start of the final game, CIS displayed a new game plan having learnt from the
previous encounter and they obviously had an upper hand. The goalkeeper from the French
School did everything right to keep the score line at 0-0 until the end of the game. The penalty
kicks saw both schools scoring their two penalties to level at 2-2. Captain Seyifunmi stepped
forward to play the third for CIS which he scored beautifully after which the goalkeeper for CIS,
Aryaan accorded the team a wonderful save which brought the game to an end with CIS
winning 3-2 and lifting the Gold trophy and medals. The French School collected the silver
medals and trophy for their efforts while BIS in the third place game won the Bronze medals
and the trophy.
