Communique - Meeting held with Secondary Parents on Monday February 13th 2012 – School Gym

Posted on February 15, 2012

Overview

The meeting was arranged in order to clarify the position with regards to the construction, development of the new school site and the timeline to deliver the project.

In order to obtain full clarity, the school invited Mr Ola Seriki, the Managing Director of the Building Contractor - SAS Construction and the Project Manager Mr Julius Igho-Orere of Savant Integrated Concepts Limited, the company specifically engaged to oversee the construction works.

We were assured by both by Mr Seriki and Mr Julius that the construction work would be of the highest possible standards and within all the guidelines and standards as set by the U.K based architects.

We were also informed that delays had taken place due the upgrading to a far higher standard by the client, with regards to the foundation. All onsite issues have been resolved and the piling foundation has commenced and is on schedule. It is expected that more visible construction work will commence in March.

Delivery Date, Project Time lines and Updates

The important factor mentioned by both the Building Contractor and the Project Manager, being that the date being worked towards  for the school to be open, and importantly up to standards in terms of construction and safety, was still September 2012. He also strongly emphasised that this was still a realistic proposition and to quote "entirely doable ".

Mr Seriki and Mr Julius  promised to make available a time line/ building programme on the school website and provide regular updates and photos in line with the programme, thus ensuring that regular information be shared on a public forum for all parents and interested parties.

Mr Mark Hasenclever, a Secondary School Parent with great experience in this field, also kindly offered to liaise with both the ProJect Manager and the Building Contractor with regard to progress and developments at the site, it is hoped that there may be one or two other parents with experience in this field, that may also be able to join him.

Enquiries

Mr Ola Seriki stated that he would be happy to receive questions or enquiries from any parents regarding the Project, Mr Julius also agreed to this.

Mrs Chukwumah, School Director, stated that any Parent wishing to talk with her regarding any concerns or needing information about the Project, should contact her P.A who would happily arrange an appointment, but stressed that it would be by appointment only.

In conclusion

In conclusion, most of the parents in attendance expressed their desire to work with the school to ensure the desired objectives were met but asked the school to ensure communication flowed at all times to quell unnecessary rumour mongering.
