CIS hosted an AISEN Age 9 ‘7-aside’ Football competition last week Saturday; 10 other International schools were in attendance. The event attracted lots of parents and friends who cheered the players on as the games progressed.
The first set of games were the group round robin events, which gave every school the opportunity to play against one another. The games were keenly contested as there were so many skills and techniques in display.
At the end of the preliminary stages, four schools namely CIS Lekki, St Saviours Ikoyi, Grange School Ikeja and Greenwood Ikoyi qualified for the Semi finals. CIS played Grange school while St Saviours played against Greenwood school.
CIS was undoubtedly the better side dominating the game from the beginning and ensuring a place in the finals by beating Grange school 2-0. The other semifinals ended goalless and this was settled with a penalty shoot-out, which St Saviours Ikoyi won. The third place match saw Greenwood emerging victorious through penalties as well.
The final game presented was keenly contested as both the CIS and St Saviours teams gave it their all, throwing in tackles, and dribbles that could be seen at top level football games. At the end of regulation time, St Saviours won the game making CIS finish in 2nd place.
