Dear CIS Family,
We are pleased to share with you, excerpts of our just concluded Literacy Week 2017 which held from 20th February – 24th February, 2017. It was a fantastic programme that captured the essence of this year’s theme: ‘Simply African’.
Students from both Senior and Junior Schools were selected to be part of the distinguished Literacy Week Committee to drive this year’s programme. The Committee explored the dynamic nature of literary expression within the various specialist areas of academic learning, and the importance it has to fostering the growth and intellectual development of 21st Century learners, as well as the planning, controlling, editing and publishing all associated Literacy Week materials and events.
An array of interactive and engaging activities took place and this include:Declamation, Spelling Bee, Designing a Classroom Door as a Book Cover Competition, African Dress-up Day, Book Fair and unveiling of the 2017 Anthology, Cross-Curricular Workshops (for students, teachers and parents).
In addition to the remarkable activities that buzzed around the campus within the week, CIS had the honour of hosting acclaimed African writers and the students really enjoyed their visits.
One of the high points of the programme was a press briefing which took place to encourage literacy in our society. This can be viewed via the following link: https://vimeo.com/206030045
The Anthology of stories and poems written by students is quite an interesting collection. Please stop by our campus to pick up one or more copies for yourselves, children and or other family members.
