Dear CIS Parents,
Welcome back and welcome to a new school year.
I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday and experienced some wonderful moments with your children away from school. It was very pleasing to see smiling and excited faces this morning as you all made your way from cars to class. On behalf of all CIS staff, welcome back and to those of you joining us for the first time, welcome to the best school in the country.
Your child’s class teacher or form tutor will be providing a raft of information to their students over today and also useful guidance and pointers to parents as well. If at any point you feel that something is missing, please contact, in the first instance, class teacher or form tutor. If you need to raise issues beyond this level, contact either the relevant Key Stage Middle Manager in Primary or Head of Key Stage 3 or Heads of subject Departments (HoD) in Secondary. After these members of staff come my Assistant Headteachers of Primary and Secondary (Academic & Pastoral) and they will be more than happy to assist you.
We are very proud of our teachers, many of whom have been with us for many years. Some have joined us this year after our extensive recruiting process concluded to ensure that your children receive the very best learning opportunities and experiences. I am sure you will make them feel very welcome.
The year ahead sees two very exciting events. The first takes place towards the end of October when CFBT (who were one of of OfSTED’s largest contractors of school inspections) visit us in order to evaluate if we are worthy to be awarded their international school accreditation, International Schools Quality Mark (ISQM), and additionally, if we meet the standards expected, we will be given the prestigious title of a British School Overseas (BSO.) Should we gain either (of course ideally both) of these, we know that our standards are the same as those that one would find in the very best independent schools in England and those that offer the National Curriculum of England in an overseas setting. CIS would become the first school in Africa to hold these levels of external assessment and accreditation.
Secondly, we see this year, the commencement of building work on our campus that will allow us to offer Boarding provision from next academic year. I have inserted some of our architectural drawings below. This is very exciting for CIS and we look forward to this new additional facility to our great school.
I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate my congratulations and thanks to the Year 11 students of last academic year. I hope you received the details of their examination results in an email from me towards the last week in August. If you did not, please follow this link to our website http://www.cislagos.org/news-events/updates-and-announcements/congratulations-cis-year-11-students-very-good-igcse-results/
Finally, I wish to draw your attention to some dates and events that are fast approaching:
Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) or after school clubs information will be sent out from Ms Tele this coming Friday the 4th September.
Registration for teacher led ECAs is Monday the 7th September and for externally led clubs, registration is on Tuesday 8th September.
Saturday clubs start on the 12th September and all other ECAs start the week beginning the 14th September.
You will be receiving soon invitations to attend coffee mornings with academic departments and Year groups from Secondary and Primary respectively. These are very useful sessions and well worth attending in order to find out more about life at school, as well as further opportunities to meet your children’s teachers. Please be on the lookout for an email from my Assistant Headteachers.
Finally, building on the success of last year, we will be holding the Parent Teacher brunch on Saturday October 3rd from 11am until 2pm. Details will be sent nearer the time.
Thank you and on behalf of all CIS staff we wish you a very happy school year ahead.
Head of School.
