Admissions Policy.

CIS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people who are in our care.

Admission criteria for entrance into CIS

As an International School, we admit children from the international community here in Nigeria, as well as children from their host country.

There is an assessment requirement for students who will join Years 1-6. All applicants from Nursery Class to Year 6, wherever possible, would be expected to attend a taster day, which also is part of the admission process.  Parents, with their children, will also be required to meet with the Head of School or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Students for Years 7-10 would be subject to an online Cognitive Ability Test, would be required to make a presentation on one of three given topics and, with their parents, have to attend a formal admission interview with the Head of School before an offer letter can be issued.   Only in exceptional circumstances would a student be admitted into Year 11.

Students who have achieved externally recognized qualifications or representative honours in the expressive arts, sports or public speaking should provide evidence of such awards at their application and refer to it during their interview.

Priority, though, is given to:

  • Siblings of existing CIS children.
  • Children of employees of the British Deputy High Commission.

The school will only make an offer of admission if it believes the learning and developmental needs of the student can be met.

Midstream admission requirements

Students seeking admission from other schools once an academic year has started, will gain admission based upon receipt of official records from the previous school, which confirms that they have been attending school and have no outstanding issues, either financially, or academically.  Students will still be required to undergo the CIS Admission procedures (please refer to information above.)  However, there would be no admission offer for students wishing to join Year 11 once the academic year has begun

The school will only make an offer of admission if it believes the learning and developmental needs of the student can be met.

Emergency contact information

It is critical for the school to be able to contact parents at any time students are in school. The school must have the parent’s current address, e-mail, home, mobile and business telephone numbers. Emergency contact persons and their telephone numbers are needed in case a parent cannot be reached. This information is required at the time of registration and whenever a change occurs in the parents’ address, telephone number or emergency contact information. Such information is treated as confidential and is only released to relevant school staff. Telephone contact details, however, may be used on our telephone tree which is used to alert families of information or potential emergency situations during and out of school hours.
